| For the fifth time in six years, 2000 AD has shown why itâ??s the â??Galaxyâ??s Greatest Comicâ?? by scooping the top 6 awards at this yearâ??s Diamond National Comics Convention held in Bristol.
The competition this year was again very strong with a significant number of American characters and titles with movie tie-ins vying for attention but it was 2000 ADâ??s core strengths and appeal, which won the voters over. The awards are:
Comic of the Year â?? 2000 AD
Best Character â?? Judge Dredd
Best Graphic Novel â?? Necronauts
Best Website â?? www.2000adonline.com
Best New Talent â?? Dom Reardon, Artist on â??Caballistics, Incâ??
Best Artist â?? Henry Flint
Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion and 2000 AD said, â??We are honoured to win the top awards this year. 2000 AD has always maintained the highest level of originality and creativity since its launch in 1977 and from the time we became owners weâ??ve worked very hard indeed to continue this grand tradition. Winning so many awards voted for by the public is a great accoladeâ?.
With Necronauts winning its category, its writer Gordon Rennie secured his position as one of 2000 ADâ??s most talented contributors with his Caballistics co-creator Dom Reardon winning Best New Talent and his numerous storylines for Judge Dredd helping to win Best Character.
To add to the celebrations, the Judge Dredd Megazine achieved second place to 2000 AD for Comic of the Year.
Jason concludes, â??Weâ??ve held our position in the market for two reasons; a loyal readership and a quality product. Our ultimate aim is to inspire and increase our readership. We actively seek new and exciting talent to provide our readers with the very best sci-fi and fantasy content and itâ??s wonderful that this is recognisedâ?.
