Lauenburg, Germany: December 17, 1944: William ‘Maximan’ Whitlock is
leading a group of Allied troops on a rescue mission - they arrive too late, finding only the dead. They are all feeling
disheartened and homesick.
Aldermaston, England: December 18, 1944: Dr. Peyne, one of the scientists involved with creating the superhuman,
learns that America has just developed the Atom Bomb, and plans to use it in Berlin to test if Maximan can survive it.
Peyne is outraged that the government are allowing the Americans to do this.
Lauenburg, Germany: December 18, 1944: Maximan is preparing to go on to Berlin, unaware of the nuclear threat
awaiting him. He confesses that he feels alienated from the other troops. He thinks they don’t like him because of his
invulnerability.
This flashback leads directly into the Phase I Prologue, set two days later in Berlin. |
