8: Knocking on Heaven’s Door - 2000AD
prog 597
London: February 8, 1988: Peter St John has been called to 10 Downing Street. The government have received a
threat regarding the missing nuclear submarine, and the PM needs Peter’s advice.
Schiehallion, Scotland: February 8, 1988: Wallace makes sure that everybody has been introduced. Phaedra
strikes up an argument with him; he wants to build a better world, with better people in it - i.e. superhumans. She
disagrees with his ideas: “The world doesn’t belong to superhumans! It’s ours!” Wallace finds her argument boring,
and so he casually shoots her dead with his handgun. He says that he’s decided to launch the missiles on Friday, and goes
off to call the PM to tell her.
Peyne takes Zenith to a comfortably furnished room, telling him of his ‘destiny’ - that it is time for the
superhumans, “evolution’s perfect child”, to take over the world. Zenith tells Peyne somewhat sardonically
that he just wants a TV, in case he misses ‘Neighbours’. |
