Prologue: Golgonooza - 2000AD prog 791 Paraphrased from ‘Seizing the Fire’ by Dr Michael Peyne (Unpublished): Peyne continues his journal every day, even though no one will read it now that the world has been completely taken over by the Lloigor. He has been kept alive only because of the part he played in the creation of the superhuman race. “What have I done? I have loosed the Tygers upon the world.” The world is populated by bizarre beings with clasped hands instead of heads, which applaud when the Lloigor pass overhead. The landscape shifts at the thought of the Lloigor Tygers. It is one or two years after they killed Zenith and Peter St John. Peyne talks to one of the Lloigor, a shimmering naked Ruby Fox. She takes away the old man’s walking cane, telling him he no longer needs it; they have altered him so that he grows younger every day. “‘Be careful what you wish for: it may come true...’ I wished for a world uncontaminated by the greed and brutality of man. I wished for a world that was the perfect playground of superhuman minds. And, see! It has all come to pass! And here I stand in this dreadful city of endless night. The last man. The last human being, his wishes fulfilled. Watching a black sunset.” |
