STARRING Joe Dredd
STATUS Future lawman
DATELINE 2146 AD
LOCATION Mega-City One, where crime runs riot. This urban sprawl is home to 400 million citizens, every one a potential criminal. The city is spread down the Eastern coast of what was once the United States of America. Unemployment is endemic, boredom is universal and only the Judges can prevent total anarchy
WEAPONRY Lawgiver handgun; daystick; bootknife
SOUNDBITE "I am the Law!"
TRADEMARK Never removes his Judge's helmet
MOTIVATION As Judge, jury and executioner, Joe Dredd is empowered to dispense instant justice. When it comes to crushing crime, Judge Dredd invented zero tolerance
PARTNERS Although he prefers to patrol the streets of Mega-City One alone, Dredd has been known to team up with other law enforcers, including former Judge Galen DeMarco and Cassandra Anderson of Psi Division
NOTES Inspired by Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry; the film poster for Death Race 2000 The name Judge Dredd came from Pat Mills who was originally going to use it for a different character The first Judge Dredd story published was drawn by Mike McMahon, not co-creator Carlos Ezquerra. Ezquerra was so upset he didn't draw Dredd for five years afterwards, only returning for the Apocalypse War mega-epic.
